Nepal Museum Association marked World Museum Day in Kathmandu on Wednesday by organizing a one-day workshop entitled “Tourism, History, Culture and Heritage: Past, Present and Future.”

Speaking on the occasion Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari highlighted the need for preserving Nepal’s culture and heritage and promoting history and culture as academic fields of study. “It is a sad fact that subjects like history and culture find no students in Tribhuvan University these days. We need to attract more and more students in these departments by offering them attractive scholarships,” he said. He also informed that the government is mulling a plan to bring all museums under the umbrella of National Museum Association.

Culture experts and professors of history and international relations presented papers on the occasion. “This program is basically meant to make younger generation aware about our country’s history and culture. History and culture have become the most neglected subjects these days. We must not allow this to happen anymore,” said Prem Singh Basnyat, the chairman of the association.
